Another number added to this unfortunate list yesterday when policeman again shamed the Khaki in Uttar Pradesh. The reported incident came to light when an angry mob of local residents caught Subhash Singh. Constable Subhash Singh, 45, is currently on deputation with the sales tax department in Gautam Budhha Nagar. He is a native of Kaithi village of Uttar Pradesh.
According to one of the neighbor, he forcibly took the girl while she was playing outside near her home in Surajpur to his room nearby when no one was around and allegedly raped her on Wednesday afternoon. He escaped after the local mob gathered hearing the screams of the girl.
Constable Subhash returned to his room early on Thursday and attacked two women neighbors when they tried to apprehend him. Later, the mob of hundreds of villagers caught and beat him up. “He was in his uniform and we kept beating him for two hours. Later, police were informed and they reached the spot by 8 am and arrested him,” said the neighbor.
Surajpur Station House Officer (SHO), Akhilesh Pradhan said that he was in an inebriated state.
Pradhan said that when residents heard the girl’s screams, they came to her rescue and caught the accused. He was thrashed by the mob before being handed over to the police, he said.
SHO Akhilesh Pradhan said, “The child has been sent to the district hospital at Sector 30, Noida for a medical test. Reports are awaited.”
Police have lodged an FIR under Sections 342 and 376 of the Indian Penal Code dealing with rape, and punishment for wrongful confinement and Sections 5/6 of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) act.
The rape victim girl is a student at a nearby school in Surajpur. The girl’s mother works as a factory laborer and hails from Bihar. The child’s father died a few years ago. She is one of five siblings.
