A CCTV camera footage that has been on loop on various news channels today, shows a security manager at Delhi’s five-star hotel, pulling the saree of a woman staffer and dragging her towards himself in an aggressive act of sexual harassment. This incident reportedly took place on 29th July, that was also victim’s birthday in Delhi’s Pride Plaza hotel in Aerocity.
That night, the accused, Pawan Dhedia, called the 33-year-old woman (who worked in the Guest section of the hotel for two years) to his cabin.
“He called me to his cabin, took out his credit card and asked me what gift I wanted. Boss told me to sit, and when I didn’t sit, he pulled me towards him and tried to take off my saree. He told the other colleague to go out of the room,” the victim told NDTV.
In the footage, the woman can be seen clutching to her saree while talking to him.
She also alleged that the manager tried to get physical with her and asked her to spend a night with him in the hotel.
It does not end there. It is also alleged that when the woman left for home that night, the man tried to pull her in his car twice.
The woman reported the incident to the Human Resources Department the same night, but no action had been taken against the manager. Ultimately, she filed an FIR with the airport police station on August 1.
But shockingly, the victim was sacked from her job yesterday whereas the man who assaulted her, has just been suspended.
When the woman reported for duty yesterday afternoon, her duty manager told her to meet with the HR department. After waiting for nearly 40 minutes she was handed a termination letter. Moreover, the colleague who had helped her extract the CCTV footage had also been sacked.
Advocate Animesh Rastogi and Neha Rastogi practising at the Delhi High Court and Supreme Court of India condemned the inactions of the senior officials of the hotel for not acting and becoming an accomplice of this heinous crime.
In a mail addressing to the CEO of the Aerocity Hotel, they wrote:
