In a country like India, whenever something gets popular it becomes mandatory for it to get into some sort of controversy. The current story has come from the Hyderabad where a young Muslim person, Muqeeth Khan, has filed an FIR against the actress Priya Prakash Varrier and the makers of the movie ‘Oru Adaar Love’. The FIR, filed at Falaknuma Police Station of Hyderabad, says that the writer of the song has hurt the Muslim sentiments by including words like ‘Manikya Malaraya Poovi’. As per the report, these three words, when translated into English, insults the Prophet, Mohammad.
When the director of the movie, Omar Lulu, was asked about this controversy, he just said that there is nothing in this song that can hurt any religion’s or an individual’s sentiments. He further added that people from all communities are listening to this song and are liking it. He emphasized that this is a love song and he won’t remove this song from the yet to be released movie, Oru Adaar Love, under anyone’s pressure.
The song “Manikya Malaraya Poovi” has been written by the director of the movie himself and has been watched over 1.5 crore times on the youtube. One main reason for this huge popularity of the song is the actress Priya Prakash Varrier whose little clip from his song went viral over the internet and she gained more the 1.5 million followers on Instagram within 24 hours due to that clip. The FIR is also on the name of the actress although she hasn’t written the song and has just acted on the song along with her other co-actors.
When the writer Omar Lulu was asked about the meaning of the song, he said that “Manikya Malaraya Movie” means “a pearl flower that is very precious”. He also told that the song is about the love of Prophet Mohammad with his wife. He further added that few Muslims people feel that the song insults Islam just because it is about the Prophet Mohammad, but the number of such people is very less.
Talking about the whole issue, Assistant Commissioner of Police Falaknuma, Syed Faiyaz said that they will consult some Islamic clerics to translate the song and if they find it hurting the religious sentiments in any manner, then the action will definitely be taken against the makers of the movie as per the law.
On the whole, the young person who filed the FIR just did it because when he tried to find the meaning of the song, he found the name of Prophet Mohammad in it. This made him a little concerned as the video shows the romance between two actors and on the background name of Prophet Mohammad is being taken. That’s why he directly went to the nearby police station to file an FIR not just against the writer of the song, but the whole cast of the song including Priya Prakash Varrier.
In our opinion, it would have been more rational if the young Muslim had filed the FIR after doing a little bit more research about the song. Involving police in such things just puts aside more important issues that the police has to deal with.
